How do the Chipmunk and Deep voice presets work?
They shift pitch up or down by a fixed amount (a musical fifth, seven semitones) using the same time-stretch-based pitch shift as the Speed Changer tool's Pitch shift slider - duration stays the same, only pitch moves, which is what gives a shifted voice its cartoonish or booming character.
How does the Robot preset work?
Ring modulation: every sample is multiplied by a low-frequency (30Hz) sine wave. That doesn't just make it louder and quieter, it actually replaces the voice's original frequencies with new sum/difference tones, which is what gives it that synthetic, metallic character instead of just sounding like a wobbly volume effect.
What does Alien combine?
A full octave pitch shift up, then the same ring modulation as Robot on top, for a pitched-up, shimmering, less human result than either effect alone.
How does the Baby preset work?
A chipmunk-style pitch bump combined with a touch of extra speed - a sped-up recording naturally reads as more of a quick babble - plus a brighter, thinner tone from the same EQ shaping the Tone control on the Volume Changer tool uses. It's a higher, breathier register than Chipmunk, not just more of the same shift.
What's the difference between Deep, Giant, Grandpa, Monster, and Demon?
All five lower pitch, but combine it differently: Deep is just the pitch shift on its own. Giant adds a bass boost for weight. Grandpa slows the speech down (without dropping pitch any further) and cuts treble for a raspy quality. Monster combines a bigger pitch drop with that same slowdown for something heavier and less human. Demon adds ring modulation on top of a full octave drop for a growling, metallic edge.
What does Telephone do?
No pitch shift at all - it's pure EQ, cutting both the bass and treble heavily so only a narrow, boxy mid-range comes through, the way an old phone line or AM radio sounds.
