What if my file is already mono?
"To mono" and single-channel extraction are no-ops on a mono file; "to stereo" duplicates it across two identical channels instead.
What's the difference between Balance and Custom L/R gain?
Balance is a single slider that fades one channel down as you move away from center, the way a stereo balance knob works, and always leaves the louder side untouched. Custom L/R gain gives each channel its own independent gain in dB, so you can turn both down, both up, or even boost one past its original level.
