Does this remove silence in the middle of the clip too?
By default, no, only quiet dead air at the very start and end is trimmed. Turn on "Also remove silent gaps throughout the clip" to scan the whole file and cut out every gap at least as long as your chosen minimum, splicing what's left back together, useful for tightening up a podcast or voice memo full of pauses.
What if my file is silent all the way through?
It's returned unchanged rather than collapsed down to nothing.
