Frequently asked

How do I measure waist and hip correctly?

Measure your waist at the narrowest point, usually just above the belly button, and your hips at the widest point around your buttocks. Keep the tape snug but not compressing the skin.

Why does the risk band depend on sex?

Men and women tend to carry fat differently, so the WHO sets separate waist-to-hip ratio thresholds for each when assessing health risk.

Is a lower ratio always better?

Generally, a lower waist-to-hip ratio is associated with lower cardiovascular risk, but it's one screening measure among many, not a full health assessment on its own.
